Is the creation of Alpaca Fiber and other fiber’s such as Wool, Mohair, Silks and many more mediums into beautiful, practical felted garments and hand dyed knitting yarns run by Judy Craig.
Judy’s work initiated with wool, this involved taking the unprocessed fiber literally from the sheep’s back and having the fleece scoured/washed/carded and then used as clean tops for felting or spun into knitting yarns. Judy’s Award Winning creations included jumpers that had Australian Native Animals knitted into them.
Judy’s natural progression into creating Alpaca products came with the purchase of her first two Alpacas ‘’Jac’’ and ‘’Kira’’ in 1997. Alpaca fiber is quite unique in that it has virtually no lanoline or natural grease feel - it is basically a hollow fiber. Therefore products made from Alpaca fiber do not tend to irritate sensitive skins. Alpaca fiber also adjusts to the body’s temperature quickly and holds the warmth of the body in a light garment.
The dyes used to create these fabulous colours are all made with the natural beauty of Australia landscape in mind. The vibrant colours and individuality of each garment make you feel that it was designed and created just for you!
Experimenting with Alpaca fibers has led Judy to discover that when Alpaca is combined with a small percentage of Merino Wool and other natural fibers such as Silk, Mohair, Cashmere and many more, the garments allow the wearer to appreciate the “uniqueness” of these exquisitely created individual garments.
Whether the Alpaca fiber has been Felted/Spun/Nuno Felted or knitted into a Becreatif garment you can be assured that no two products are ever the same.
In 2002 Judy started working with MaryAnn Drysdale from Freshfield Alpacas (895 Frankston Flinders Rd. Somerville 3912). Their working together started a whole new faze. A purpose built shop and workshop was erected on the farm where we now run workshops of many kinds. Click here to see workshops.
If the last few years Judy has moved to the Mornington Peninsula. So come and visit! Available during Fridays, Saturday, Sunday & Monday or by appointment - click here to contact us. |
